Manto is a commercial space in Karachi that had the bones of somewhere memorable and none of the atmosphere. Our brief was the one we like best: keep the structure, change how it feels to stand inside it.
What we changed
We worked with bamboo, planting and layered lighting rather than heavy construction — the approach we take on most commercial fit-outs in Karachi, because it keeps a space trading and keeps the budget honest. Bamboo does a lot of work here: it warms hard surfaces, breaks up sightlines without walling anything off, and reads as considered rather than decorated.
Lighting was planned around the evening, when the space is busiest. Warm, low and directional, so the greenery casts shadow instead of sitting flat under a ceiling grid.
